The drive will focus on animal vaccination and creating greater awareness among pet owners and the wider community about responsible animal care and rabies prevention.
Rabies is almost invariably fatal once clinical symptoms appear, but it is preventable through timely vaccination and appropriate post-exposure care. Regular vaccination of dogs remains a key measure in breaking the cycle of transmission.
The department has urged pet owners and members of the public to participate in the drive and support collective efforts towards a rabies-free community
