Title: East Khasi Hills Crowned Overall Champions at State Level Inter-School Athletics Meet 2026
Press Release Number:
22/05/2026
Description:
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Wailadmiki Shylla congratulated the organisers, athletes and officials for the successful conduct of the meet and praised the young participants for their determination and sportsmanship.
Addressing the students and athletes, the minister said that every participant should feel proud for reaching the state-level competition, adding that they had already proved themselves as fighters and aspiring athletes determined to bring laurels to their families, schools, districts and the state. He reminded the participants that while winning medals may be temporary, discipline, character and sportsmanship would remain with them throughout their lives.
The minister expressed satisfaction at the growing participation and improved performances from districts beyond East Khasi Hills, which had traditionally dominated the competition. He noted that despite infrastructural challenges in the past, the government has significantly expanded sports facilities across Meghalaya under the leadership of Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma
